Suspect and motorcycle officer collide in Junction City


JUNCTION CITY, Ore. – A new cell phone video shows the collision between a suspect and a motorcycle officer in Junction City.

Police say 25-year-old Derrick Freeman jumped in front of the officer as he ran. He was then taken to hospital.

The chase began in Benton County, where police said sheriff’s deputies were looking for two cars that were going at 100 mph on the freeway and squeezed in and out of traffic. One of these drivers was arrested in Benton County. The other car, driven by Freeman, drove to Junction City, authorities said.

As officers approached the car, it collided with another vehicle near Safeway, but the other driver was not injured.

As for the passenger who was in the car with Freeman, police said they entered another car and attempted to escape, but the attempted hijacking was unsuccessful. They were also taken into custody. The authorities have not yet released the name of this passenger.
